How to Configure SOCKS5 in Chrome and Firefox
Browser-native SOCKS5 setup with and without third-party extensions.

Firefox (native)
Firefox has native SOCKS5 support:
1. Open Settings → General → Network Settings → Settings 2. Choose Manual proxy configuration 3. Set SOCKS Host to your provider's gateway, e.g. gate.example.com 4. Set Port to your port 5. Choose SOCKS v5 and check Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5
Restart Firefox and check https://whatismyipaddress.com.
Chrome (via command line)
Chrome supports SOCKS5 via a launch flag:
chrome --proxy-server="socks5://gate.example.com:7777"For username/password auth, use an extension like FoxyProxy — the CLI flag doesn't accept credentials.
The right approach for most people
Use FoxyProxy on both browsers. It supports per-tab profiles, URL-pattern rules, and one-click switching. Every commercial SOCKS5 provider ships setup docs for it.
