IPv4 datacenter proxies remain the default because every site on the internet accepts IPv4, while IPv6 support is still patchy outside large platforms.
IPv4 exhaustion keeps addresses scarce and priced accordingly. That scarcity is also why providers recycle ranges — and why subnet history matters so much when you buy.
Prefer vendors that publish the ASNs and regions behind their IPv4 pools and that retire flagged ranges. Spread workloads across subnets rather than hammering one range.
Use IPv4 whenever compatibility is uncertain, which is most of the time. Move volume to IPv6 only for targets you have confirmed serve it.
