A residential IP proxy is defined by the address itself: an IPv4 allocated to a retail broadband subscriber, not to a hosting provider. That single attribute drives everything anti-bot systems decide about you.
Anti-bot vendors classify every incoming IP by ASN type, historical abuse, open ports and geolocation consistency. Residential ranges score well on all four because they belong to consumer ISPs and carry ordinary human traffic alongside yours.
Verify what you actually bought: check the exit against an IP-intelligence service and confirm the ASN is an ISP, the usage type reads residential and the fraud score is low. Reputable vendors do not object to this test; sketchy ones deflect.
Use residential IPs on any target that consults reputation databases — a growing majority in 2026. Prefer datacenter or ISP IPs when reputation is not checked and throughput matters more.
