SOCKS5 Proxies

SOCKS5 is a transport-layer proxy protocol: it forwards raw TCP and UDP packets without touching the payload, so it carries any application traffic, not just HTTP.

Unlike an HTTP proxy, a SOCKS5 server does not parse or rewrite requests. That makes it faster on non-web protocols and completely protocol-agnostic — mail clients, game clients, peer-to-peer software and messengers all work.

Authenticate with username and password or an IP whitelist, then point the client at socks5:// or socks5h:// (the h variant resolves DNS at the proxy, which prevents DNS leaks). Remember SOCKS5 adds no encryption of its own.

Choose SOCKS5 for UDP, peer-to-peer, gaming, Telegram and non-HTTP tooling. For pure web scraping, HTTP proxies offer caching and header control that SOCKS5 cannot.
